But let’s face it, by the time we reach grown-ass womenhood we have lived through some crap!
In this short trauma informed session you will gain confidence in a range of evidence based skills using your mind, body and voice to deal with whatever comes your way; whether its recognising warning signs in a partner's behaviour, standing up to workplace bullies or physically disabling a larger stronger attacker, you've got what it takes to stay safe and empowered.
No experience needed, all abilities and fitness levels welcome.
Bell Murphy
Bell Murphy (she/her) is an accredited member of Kia Haumaru: Personal Safety Education and has been teaching self defence to women, girls and members of the rainbow community in Ōtepoti for 8 years.
Her ancestors came to Te Wai Pounamu 5 generations ago from Ireland, Scotland and England.
She is also PhD candidate in Gender Studies at Otago and CoPrincipal Investigator on the Talk and the Body research project at Victoria University.
Her research is focused on the meaning and practice of ‘empowerment’ in the context of feminist self defence programmes in Aotearoa.
