Bollywood Grooves

With Lisa Wilkinson

Dance is good for the body, mind and soul.

Kia ora I'm Lisa from Rasa and I am pumped to come to wee treat and share some moves with y'all.

Come and shake your tail feather (amongst other bits and bobs) as we delve into the joyful art of Bollywood dance.

You will learn mudras (hand gestures) and strike beautiful poses as we shimmy and shake and have heaps of fun.

Scarves will be provided to set the mood.

Suitable for all bodies, minds and souls.

Kāi tahu / kāti pakeha

I have been teaching  dance for 35 years starting my career in Christchurch with Dance Corporate in the mid 80s.

I danced with companies in Christchurch such as Dance Core, Scrambled Legs with Sheryl Robinson and Fleur de Thier before moving to Ōtepoti in 1997.

Once in Ōtepoti I obtained a Bachelor or Education (teaching and learning) Primary and a Bachelor of Performing Arts.

In 2003 I founded RASA School of Dance and starting with 15 students I now have a roll of around 450 at any given time.

I started off teaching all the classes myself in HipHop, Bollywood and Contemporary and after about 5 years started to gather teachers and train my own students to teach.

Now I have around 13 teachers many who are my students or students of my students.

My wife Tara and I run the business together and have been learning on the  job for 23 years now.

Next year I hope to enrol in a Bachelor of Counselling degree to further enhance my education and combine talk therapy with what I already believe is therapeutic (dance is good for body mind and soul).
